Band and Choir
Do you sing or play an instrument? Improve your skills and offer a
gift to others by joining our band and choir. Your sight reading will steadily improve and so will your sound. And people have fun serving God through the arts!
Our practice and performance time is 9am – 1pm on Sundays. We also have smaller ensembles that practice at other times and the choir has a Christmas musical annually.
Our music director is Mr. Enrique Haneine. Enrique has a jazz background and our musical style is contemporary. Check below for the next orientation meeting.
English Conversation
You’re reading English! Do you know how many people in Jackson Heights want to learn? English is the key to many good jobs. We help about 75 people each year to practice their
English skills with informal classes and conversation with an English speaker. If you can give an hour a week and speak in English, you’ll end up with a new friend.
Homeless
3000 people have been offered a good nights sleep
at Community Church through the Homeless Program. We have a ten bed shelter that operates from November 1 – March 31 each year. The men are sent by Grand Central Partnership for the Homeless. We look for people to serve as hosts.
Duties are simple and rewarding. A meal is heated and served and the men immediately get ready for the night. You work with a partner and sleep overnight at the church. It’s a great way to make a difference in New York.
Tech Crew
Our volunteer Technical Crew assists the service by computer projection of songs and responses. They also video the
service and audio tapes are for sale afterwards in the library.
Media enhances the sermon and worship. Sometimes, video clips are presented or other artistic media. It’s a demanding job with split second timing! Its also
a great team of people who enjoy working with others. Jobs include
Sound board
3 cameras
Switcher
Floor Manager
Assistant Floor Manager
Light board
Tutoring
We want to help 150 kids (K - 8th grade) get “A” in homework. Our afterschool tutoring program starts every weekday at 3:30pm. We need individual volunteers and retired teachers to
work with the children and help them with English and Arithmetic.
We work with schools to give credit for this experience. Minimum commitment is once per week for two hours and we can also accept help every day. Call the school office
Practical Helps
